Pope Valley Elementary Sees Encouraging Gains

Pope Valley Elementary School reopened for the 2026–27 school year with renewed momentum after several challenging years. New data shows significant improvements in student connectedness, school safety, attendance, and academic performance. English language arts proficiency increased from 19% in 2023–24 to 57% this spring, while overall student-reported connectedness rose to 82%.

Principal and Superintendent Kim Kern credits the progress to a renewed focus on safety, academics, individualized learning, and community involvement. With new programs, returning and new teachers, and growing enrollment, the small K–8 school is entering the new year with a strong sense of optimism and a focus on continued growth.
