We all know reading is fundamental, it’s one of the most important skills our students learn. Confident readers use this skill to explore new interests and expand their horizons. Reading is not just about recognizing words; it’s about comprehension, decoding, building vocabulary, and so much more. While we’re working hard in the classroom, we need your support at home!
- Make reading apart of your day, everyday – Whether it’s a bedtime story, reading street signs, or looking at a menu, every second counts.
- Encourage reading – Talk to your student about what you enjoy reading and why it matters. Your enthusiasm can inspire them!
- Be their biggest cheerleader – Ask your student to read aloud their schoolwork and actively listen. This encouragement goes a long way!
- Have conversations about books – Ask questions like, “What do you think will happen next?” or “What’s your favorite part?”. This helps with comprehension and critical thinking.
The more we work together, the more we can help our students grow into strong, secure readers. Thank you for your constant partnership! Need a place to start? Explore 50 must reads!
