Pope Valley Awarded $712,500 Grant from California Community Schools Program

Funding to Support Student Wellness, Family Engagement, and Academic Success

Pope Valley Union Elementary School District has been awarded a $712,500 grant from the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP)! This major investment is part of a statewide initiative announced by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and Governor Gavin Newsom to expand California’s groundbreaking network of campuses that go beyond academics to support the whole child.

What is a Community School?

A community school is a hub for student success, family engagement, and community well-being. Through the CCSPP, schools will be able to offer:

  • Health and mental health services
  • Family support and engagement programs
  • After-school and summer learning opportunities
  • Nutrition services
  • Teacher training and student-centered instruction

These services work together to break down barriers to learning and ensure every child is healthy, supported, and ready to thrive in school and beyond.

“This grant is a powerful affirmation of the work we’re already doing in Pope Valley,” said Superintendent Kim Kern. “We believe in educating the whole child and we are committed to supporting not just academic success, but physical and emotional wellness, too. With this investment, we’ll be able to build a stronger bridge between school, home, and community.”

We’re honored to be part of this statewide movement and even more excited about what’s ahead for our students here in Pope Valley.
