Students outperform Napa County and California averages in English language arts.
We have some exciting news to share about our Pope Valley Pioneers!
Newly released 2025โ2026 California assessment results show that our students are making remarkable academic progress. Just four years ago, only 12% of Pope Valley students met or exceeded state standards in English language arts. Today, that number has climbed to 57%, surpassing both the Napa County average of 44% and the California statewide average of 49%!
And there’s even more to celebrate:
- Latino student achievement: Nearly 73% of our Latino students met or exceeded English language arts standards.
- Math improvement: Proficiency has more than doubled in just one year, increasing from 14% to 33%.
- English learner success: Four of our ten English learners were reclassified as fluent English proficient during the 2025โ2026 school year, according to district records.
- Improved attendance: Chronic absenteeism declined from 62.5% in 2025 to 30.6% in 2026, according to the California School Dashboard.
- Stronger school community: District surveys show that 82% of students now report feeling connected to school, up from 46%.
“For years, most of our students were not meeting the state’s reading and writing standards. Today, we’re outperforming both Napa County and California,” said Superintendent and Principal Kim Kern. “This is the result of teachers, students, and families working together, with high expectations for every child.”
These achievements reflect our ongoing commitment to excellent instruction, individualized learning, student wellness, and creating a school environment where every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to succeed.
We are incredibly proud of our teachers, students, families, and the entire Pope Valley community for making this progress possible. While there is still work ahead, we have so much to celebrate!
